A Summer Piano Program Hosted by The Balanced Pianist Wisconsin
2008 When: Friday, July 25 through
Wednesday, July 30, 2008. There are also special events open to the public the
evenings of July 27 and 28. Are you wondering if The Balanced Pianist is for you? See what past participants have to say. Note: No previous experience in the Taubman approach or Alexander Technique is necessary for participation in this program.
Registration: As soon as you decide to attend, fill out the registration form and send a check for your deposit to: The Balanced Pianist P.O. Box 49 East Setauket, NY 11733 Because everyone receives personal attention, the program is limited to 24 participants. If you want to be sure there are still openings before you send your deposit, please fill out the registration form at least one week before the postmark deadline, indicate in the message box that you are wondering about openings, and we will let you know if there is room for you in the program. We know it would be easier for you to register online with a credit card, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We limit ourselves to payment by check to keep your prices down.
On-Site Registration for Special Events Open to the Public You can register and pay for each of the events below fifteen minutes before the program begins. Fee is $30 per event. Please make your check out to The Balanced Pianist. (Please note that both of these events are included in the curriculum for participants in the full program). Special Events: Sunday, July 27, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm: Integrating Our Senses, led by Gulchin Tarabus. Gulchin will draw from her experience with Orff-Schulwerk and Dalcroze to explore rhythm games and movement activities that enhance our understanding of music. Monday, July 28, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm: Performance class: improving your concentration in performance. Teresa Dybvig and Susan Nowicki will coach participants in using the tools from Don Greene's Performance Success. The
Schedule Check-in begins at 2 pm on Friday, July 25. The program will open at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 25, with an orientation meeting. From 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm there will be an opening address, Making Changes, by Teresa Dybvig followed by a reception with some four-hand entertainment provided by Ms. Nowicki and Ms. Dybvig and any others who would like to join in! The following days will begin at 8:30 or 9:00 am and end at 9 pm. A Sample Day's Schedule:
Travel: If you travel by air, the closest airport is the La Crosse Municipal Airport (LSE), which is served by American Airlines and Northwest Airlines. A taxi ride from the airport to the Viterbo Fine Arts Center will probably be less than $20, including tip. You can also fly into the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport (MSP) and rent a car to drive the remaining 2.5 - 3 hours to LaCrosse. You can see a list of airlines that fly into MSP on the website. Accommodation: If you need accommodation, please let us know when you register. Two different types of university accommodations are available, apartments and dormitory rooms. Prices include linens and tax, and cover housing for the entire Balanced Pianist Wisconsin 2008 program. When you register, we will ask you to specify whether you would like to stay in apartments or dormitories.
Hotel: If you would like to stay in a hotel instead, we suggest you try the Guesthouse Motel at 800-274-6873, or 608-784-8480. Plan to pay at least $550 for the duration of your stay. La Crosse is a popular summer destination, and there are many other hotels, but not only do they fill up quickly, their prices also reflect the popularity of the area. Meals: Lunches and most dinners will be provided by Viterbo University food services, and are included in your registration fee. You can either make your own breakfasts, or stop by a coffee shop that is close to the university housing. |
